RAR Files

Are there any dangers in downloading RAR Files to MAC? With windows I worried about possible viruses and spyware. Can these files potentially harm a MAC? If so what are some steps I can take to protect my computer?

Mac OS X (10.6.4)

There's nothing inherently more dangerous about a RAR file than any other downloaded archive. When downloading an application, regardless of how its packaged, you should exercise reasonable caution. Of course, since there aren't any Mac viruses and only a few rare trojans, you also shouldn't jump at shadows the way you have to in the Windows world! See my [Mac Virus guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/macvirus> for more details.
