Nationwide Mobile banking app no longer available on iPhone

I had a prompt to update the Nationwide mobile banking app on my iPhone and when I went to the Google store it said it no longer was available. As I couldn't get access anymore to the app, I have since deleted it and then tried to do a search again on the Google app store but it has now completely disappeared. I have no access to my bank account on my phone now which is a bit annoying and when I contacted the bank directly they said to contact the Apple store directly.

Did you try to download the banking app directly by using the AppStore on your iPhone and the list of your purchases, as explained in this article?

A search for Nationwide bank turned up this site in the U.K.

https://www.nationwide.co.uk

This page has links to their mobile apps in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

If I click on the App Store button, I get an "app currently not available in your country or region" error dialog.

I do not know if this is because Nationwide Bank wants to restrict access to the U.K. only (I'm in the U.S.), or if the absence of the app has to do with trademark reasons. (I.e., the Nationwide insurance company got the name first, and must actively defend against use of the trademark by other companies whose business is similar enough to cause a reasonable chance of confusion.)

Note that if the absence of the app in the U.S. (and in other places outside of the U.K.?!?) is due to trademark reasons – and the insurance company is the one that holds the U.S. trademark – it would be up to your bank to figure out how to fix things in a way that passed legal muster. (Before Apple Computer purchased the trademarks of Apple Records, they had to avoid using the name "Apple" in connection with music. Hence one reason why the iTunes Store was called the iTunes Store and not the "Apple Music" Store.)
