Apple's online watch compatibility list and app compatibility lists are completely wrong

I searched on the apple website for iPhone compatibility and it says iPhone 8 is compatible with Watch SE2 with iPhone on iOS 16 or later and watch os 9 or later. This is a lie. Watch os 11 is later than 9 and is not compatible. iOS 16 and later is not compatible when it is iOS 16.7 and later with watch later than os 9.

Since the person buying a used Apple Watch has no way of knowing what watch os is on the watch this compatibility list is useless. What should be listed are the watch os which is compatible with which iOS but this is not the case.

I run into the same lie all the time when downloading apps and it says this app runs on my device if it is running an os which apple does not allow on the device so how can it be compatible with my device????

The article refers to the Apple Watch SE having watchOS 9 installed, when this model has been introduced.

But, newly sold Apple Watches are always updated to the latest watchOS. In your case, the Apple Watch SE 2nd. Gen already has watchOS 11 installed, and this watchOS requires an iPhone XS ore newer, which is able to install iOS 18.

The only way to pair the watch would be asking the Apple Support at the Apple Store, if they can downgrade the watch.
