Word for Mac (and Excel): Quick Access Toolbar has expanded and now obscures top of Ribbon

All of a sudden the Quick Access Toolbar on Word for Mac and Excel for Mac has doubled in size and obscures the top of the Ribbon. The QAT cannot be moved and cannot be resized by any preference or setting I have been able to find. This is making it very difficult to use these essential programs. Running Sequoia 15.6.1 on Apple M1 Pro Macbook. Thanks for your help.
