CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Dock Issues

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new CalDigit Element Hub Thunderbolt 4, and I’m having trouble getting it to work properly with my MacBook Pro M2 13-inch (2022), Tahoe.

At first, the hub wasn’t recognized at all. I updated macOS, installed the CalDigit Thunderbolt Station Utility, and even changed the Thunderbolt 4 cable. The hub is now detected, and the USB-C connection works fine.

However, none of the USB-A or USB 3.0 ports seem to work — any device I plug in isn’t detected by my Mac. I’ve also tried using different hubs and USB-A to USB-C adapters, and the result is the same, so it doesn’t seem to be a cable or adapter issue.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a fix? I’d really appreciate any help, as I rely on these ports for work.

Thanks in advance!

CalDigit – Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub

  • One Thunderbolt 4 upstream port (for the connection to a computer)
  • Three Thunderbolt 4 downstream ports
  • Four USB-A downstream ports

While splitting one Thunderbolt chain into several is a feature that first appeared around the time that Thunderbolt 4 came out, CalDigit claims that this hub is compatible with computers that have Thunderbolt 3, and with Macs which are running Big Sur or later.

Are you using the CalDigit hub with its own power supply? CalDigit's FAQ says that

"… the Element Hub requires a power supply in order to operate.

The host Thunderbolt 4 connection provides 60W of power, the remaining Thunderbolt ports each provide up to 15W of power, and the USB ports provide up to 7.5W of power. To provide this much power the Element Hub requires a power supply."

Other than checking that the hub has its own power supply, I can't think of much to do – and I didn't see any Tahoe compatibility articles when poking around on the CalDigit site. You may need to contact the vendor.
