It doesn’t matter what % it is extremely hot while charging, no apps open, not using anything

it did this on MagSafe charging before but not on C charger

If you are using a Fast Charger (20w or higher), your phone will generate heat while charging. If your phone was truly overheating, it would display a picture of a thermometer and tell you it can't be used until it cools off. If you're not seeing that, your phone isn't overheating. Now, there is something new which came out last year, where when using a fast charger, the phone will rapidly charge to 80%, then display a message that charging has been paused until the phone cools to a cooler temperature. This isn't overheating. This is a new feature designed to help preserve the health of your battery.

no apps open

There is never a time when things aren’t happening on a smartphone. I don’t know what you mean by “no apps open”, but that is impossible unless you turn off all notifications, disable email and texts, and put the iPhone into Airplane Mode. Killing apps in the app switcher does not stop an app from responding to notifications or event updates (such as weather, stocks, etc), and is a meaningless thing to do, because apps that appear in the app switcher are not running, they are suspended. By killing them you just slow down your iPhone and increase battery drain. The Phone app uses energy (and generates heat) frequently, as it says “here I am” to the network, and a weak signal uses 10 times as much energy doing so as a strong signal.
