iPhone 14 Pro Max feels stuck at 60Hz on Home Screen — Not as smooth as iPad Pro?

I’ve noticed something odd with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. The display seems to be capped at 60fps when I’m swiping between Home Screen pages — it doesn’t feel as smooth as my iPad Pro at all.

I haven’t turned on Limit Frame Rate, Low Power Mode, or anything like that, and the device isn’t overheating either. Everything else (like scrolling in apps) feels fine — just the Home Screen animations look a bit sluggish.

Both devices support 120 Hz, but note that is a max refresh rate. Because your iPhone supports a ProMotion display, the Hz is not fixed at that max and will adjust accordingly based on your tasks, which can go down all the way to 1 Hz. For say you are running a demanding video or game, that can run at max Hz. But a webpage or image can run lower.

Try a Forced Restart if all applications you are trying seem to have the slow refresh rate.

  • Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
  • Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
  • Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo (If you see only the Power Off Slider, you are performing it correctly. You should not see the Emergency SOS or Medical ID slider. If you see those, press X and try again. And do not use the Power Off Slider either, keep holding until the screen goes black and the Apple Logo appears, which can take up to 30 seconds)
