Currently overseas, Could not call nor receive text messages

Currently overseas, Could not call nor receive text messages from all USA cell phone #s but is ok able to communicate in text/facetime with an US friend same overseas here on his US cell phone number. Is this provider or i-phone problem? How do I resolve this issue?

Did you check your Roaming settings? Can you use Wi-Fi instead of cellular data for iMessage or Facetime?

Thank you for your help. Sine I cannot call/text I have been searching for a direct Xfinity customer email to communicate but to no avail. Xfinity's assistance system was no help at all. They did the trouble shooting and instructed me to try 30 min later, well it did not work. Other times, I had to wait more then 10 min for every reply, eventually I waited for one hour, got the frustrated and quit.

Question: If I change providers online, for example T-Mobile, would all these issues go away?
