Safari randomly fails to search in iOS 26

Ever since upgrading to iOS26, I've experienced typing a search term into the Safari URL bar and then hitting Enter will occasionally simply not do the search. The tiny blue bar appears on the bottom of the URL field providing the illusion of loading, but no search will ever be done. To add insult to injury, when clicking the URL bar again, your search term will get erased, replacing it with whatever the previous entry was, so you need to type it in again.

This bug is driving me CRAZY!!!

Thank you, this is driving me crazy too!! I have found if your search gets stuck like this and you click the search bar again to find it’s erased, click back on the page you were on, then click the URL bar again and your search term will be back so you can try again.

Possible fix. In the safari settings…tabs

select bottom

1/14/26 still happening on my iPhone 17, iOS 26.1.

I didn’t see a solution. Since it deletes the search you typed, you can type the first letter of what you were searching for and it pops up. It’s still not a fix for this and needs to be resolved bc it’s annoying af.

This has been happening constantly and is one of the most annoying bugs of iOS 26 among so many other insane bugs. Never using Safari again.

Apple, please stop launching things that are nowhere near ready for release.

Same here, I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve had it with multiple devices too, my 16 pro max and 17 pro, so it’s definitely a software issue. Hope Apple can fix it soon.
