No writing tools at all on Tahoe upgrade on Macbook pro M1 - 3/11/2025

Last night, I upgraded my MacBook Pro M1 t with Tahoe 26.0.1. Since then, there has been a failure of all writing tools through AI in all applications.

I have looked at the AI download which states it is 100% complete BUT has The indication of still processing or thinking.

I followed various suggestions such as:

Turning AI off, restarting and back on.

Turning the AI off and changing the region and language from UK English to US English and restarting.

Changing the language in region from US English back to UK English, turning the AI on and restarting.

None of which has had any success. The AI button is available in apps such as pages in Notes however when text is highlighted to use writing tools, The tools are not available and a note states. "once support is downloaded, AI tools will be available"

Any tips and advice would be appreciated.

To check if ALL the Apple Intelligence files have actually downloaded

System Setting >> General >> Storage >> macOS

Look at the I in a circle and click it

What does it report

Here are the key requirements for Writing Tools to work properly:

A Mac with an Apple silicon chip (M1 or later) supports Apple Intelligence

You must have Apple Intelligence turned on in System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. Apple Support+1

The system must download the required “support/models” files for Apple Intelligence so features like “Rewrite”, “Proofread”, “Summarize” become available. Apple Support Community+1

Your Mac’s region & language settings (especially Siri & system language) must match one of the supported languages/regions for the feature. Apple Support Community

A stable internet connection (so the model/download process isn’t blocked). Some users report VPNs, hotspots or weird network settings interfere.

After enabling AI and seeing the download, restart the Mac.

Leave the Mac idle for 10-30 minutes after restart (with screen on) so the system can finalize any background model updates.
