This week I updated to macOS 26.1 and today installed Apple Intelligence on my iPhone, iPad and Mac.
On my Mac I encountered the issue that the ChatGTP Extension option is greyed out (see bottom of screenshot)

Having same issue. Only way to reinitiate GPT is by Turing apple intelligence off then on again. There needs to be an update by apple to fix this. Should not have to do this step every time otherwise "what's the point"
Same problem here, tried everything I found in the web. The extension keeps changing between greyed out and working fine.
I noticed this:
-When I go to settings->time screen->content and privacy->apple intelligence and siri (with every option allowed previosly) I only click ok and the chatgpt extension option is good, but when I close the settings app and re-open, the chatgpt extension becomes greyed out again.
I tried the suggestion of mgshoutman but works just like the above comment: works one time and then becomes greyed out again.
If someone knows how to fix it pls share with the community, thank you!

in fact, I discovered the same The fix of toggling off/on Apple Intelligence is only temporary.
