Help ! Can i change my years old music that is on my 2 ipod touches ?

Help needed please !

I have 2 old ipod touches one is a 5.1.1 and the other is version 6.1.6

I haven't looked at them for a while , but do use one daily .

I have lots of music from years gone by on my laptop , How do i get this on my ipod ? I tunes seems to be only for podcasts now .. ?

I have decided to update the music on them. I have a lots of tunes from a long long time ago , ( on my computer) I cannot find any way to add them .

Can I still add music to my ipod touches and get them to sync using apple music ?

I certainly don't want to buy music from apple music , when I already have purchased it in days gone by .

Idiotproof instructions would be very much appreciated !

To add to what Niel has mentioned:

You can still manage those iPods from iTunes or via Finder.

On older Macs, using OS Mojave (10:14) or earlier, or on a Windows PC, use iTunes to manage the iPods. In particular, makes sure that your iTunes does not have Apple Music, Apple TV or Apple Devices installed *** this will prevent you managing the iPods.
