iphone 17 series camera auto enhancement

this year, i upgraded my phone from 12 pro to 16 pro, and its fair to say im pretty disappointed with the camera because of the auto enhancement. there's no way to turn it off, the only way for me to get an accurate photo is by shooting it in raw which takes so much storage space.

i was wondering, do the iphone 17 series also does this with the camera or this is an issue exclusive to the 16 series? because if the 17 series doesnt do this, i'd like to upgrade to the 17 series, doesnt matter the base or pro model i just want the auto enhancement off.

i just want to be able to take regular photos without activating apple pro raw and still get the most accurate results.

I believe you're referring to HDR (High Dynamic Range), which cannot be turned off on iPhone, just as it couldn't be turned off on iPhone 16 Pro all the way back to iPhone 13 Pro models. Personally, while I did upgrade from iPhone 16 Pro Max to iPhone 17 Pro Max, I found that my 16 Pro Max took spectacular photos and the 17 Pro Max, even more so. If you want total control over your photos however, you'd want a Pro Model and you'd want to shoot in Raw, where you can then use photo processing software to adjust the photos to your exact specifications.

I think my photos are uniformly really good. I'm not a professional photographer, but I'm pretty skilled photographer. I use the Camera Control button on my phone and use most of the settings to compose and capture photos as best as they can be captured. Most people just point and shoot and then complain if the result was less than desired. There's an old saying..........It is the photographer, NOT the camera which is the instrument. Not being critical here, but I've taken a number of professional photography classes. Knowing the principals of photography make you a better photographer.

Here are a couple sample photos from my iPhone 17 Pro Max. I think they're excellent:

A night photo I took last night. No flash, just night mode.

of course, the saying is very true. personally, i'm not into photography nor do i know a lot about it and that's why i'm looking for the easiest way to capture photos without having to do a lot of setting up with less storage consumed as possible.

thank you for providing me with samples, those look like excellent quality of pictures. i'd take your input for consideration, thank you!
