Id like to remove the function on the iphone where it adds a period when writing. Ive disabled the setting already and it keeps happening.
Iphone 17 pro max brand new, with latest ios and my icloud restored from previous iphone. problem was there on older phone as well but as I was advised it was a hardware issue but the problem persists. please help.

There is more than one setting in Settings, General, Keyboard
Smart Punctuate and "." Shortcut.
Also Auto Punctuate in dictation
hardware is unlikely
The only other setting I can suggest is Settings, General, Transfer or reset iphone, Reset, Reset all settings.
It will remove your bank cards and any text replacement in keyboards, so make sure you have a backup in case you lose too much customisation.
All tips on settings on the phone for removing the adding of periods while writing still has not have eliminated the issue. Very frustrating,
Ive been suffering this for over a year even with changing phones and reinstalling the os entirely. But restoring my phone from icloud the problem persists. It happens alot and it makes me paranoid every time I type that its going to mess up my writing. Sometimes and usually it happens multiple times same word even after I delete, I press space to move on, period again. Not sure where this is coming from and if there are hidding macros on my phone that are causing a malfunctioning experience to me. I shouldnt have to lose all my data for this problem to fix an issue like this that can recur even after reinstalling, if I choose to.
Id like an explanation how this software problem is occuring as ive disabled this and yet in the registry the feaute is set to disabled but this isnt happening to anyone else once they disable the same settings as me. set to disabled = 1, but set to enabled = 0 and or not even exist in registry. How!!
