Faulty iPad Mail app Search Function
Since the categories feature was added to the Mail app, the search function no longer finds recent emails that are present on the device.

Have you turned off Categories yet?
- Open the Mail app
- Tap on each Inbox
- Tap on ⋯⃝ in the upper right
- Tap to check List View
