Password Issue - Changed itself?

I was home alone, i used my Iphone, then put it in charge, and then when i came back to use it, i tried my passcode so many times, the same one I ALWAYS HAD, and it just doesn't work anymore, u cannot remotely change the passcode, however keeping in mind i was home alone and used it 40 minutes prior before charging it, there is no other explanation as im well aware it can't change itself, many people on reddit had this issue, they say it could be due to corrupt memory or IOS glitches. The problem is i don't have anything backed up to icloud and now the only option i have to erase all the data, which is really unfair as i didn't even forget it, its just automatically different, I updated the software using recovery mode on mac and it's still the same story.

iPhone 16, iOS 26

I suspect your Digitizer has failed. This is built into the screen and responsible for entering the correct touch events when you press a location on your screen. This will happen frequently whenever there is a crack in the screen, although the Digitizer can fail even if the screen appears OK. Schedule an appointment with Apple where they can run diagnostics on your phone to determine if that is the cause.

Your data may still be in jeopardy without a backup no matter how you proceed. With too many incorrect Passcode attempts, the device will lock and your only option will be to erase the device. There is no backdoor option as seen when the Government attempted to sue Apple to provide access to a locked phone and Apple refused to create any bypass method.

I'm also responsible enough to not forget my passwords, all i need is help to understand if there is anything i can do to recover my data or book an appointment to apple support, will they have any backdoor to it? or should i just accept it and erase all data and start fresh.

You may well be responsible enough to not forget your passcode. But you aren't responsible if and when something goes wrong with the hardware on your iPhone. That, you have NO control over. And it appears your phone has suffered a hardware failure. Why you wouldn't be backing up your iPhone, when it can be done automatically, EVERY night when you sleep, with phone plugged in to charge and connected to Wiif is also something you could have been responsible for ensuring. You didn't do that. And you will likely lose your data as a result. Apple nor anyone here can help you with that. Backups MUST happen before something goes wrong. It's like saying you don't need insurance on your car because you've never been in an accident.

Yup i understand this and keep it in mind from now on, however it's not like im trying not to back it up, they give 5 gigs and it is completely usless, it runs out so quickly and then you need to buy icloud, like imagine you have a 512 gb phone and you still gotta buy icloud, i know it has many more features than just storage, but still it doens't seem very fair and unethical.

Remember the Apps and System files are not stored in the iCloud Backup, so the space used on your device is not exactly what is needed in iCloud. Photos is generally what is seen as the largest contributor to storage data that would be used by iCloud and you have free options where you would not need an iCloud subscription to still save your data.

  • If you have a computer, the backup including your photos can be saved there for free.
  • You can backup your photos on a thumb drive and save them there from your device and not include them in your iCloud backup. It is not likely you would need to have a subscription to iCloud to back up the rest of your data at that point.

It does make it more convenient to use iCloud. I only pay 99 cents a month for the 50GB of storage and that is enough for backups on 2 devices using the same Apple Account and 15,000 photos with plenty of room to spare. Is the 99 cents really what you think is not fair and unethical for not having to manually back up your data to another source?

Unethical? iPhone Storage and iCloud Storage are completely different. The amount of storage on your iPhone has nothing to do with how much space you have in iCloud. Yes, Apple gives you 5GB free. Once you use that much, you buy more space. It's no different than ANY other cloud storage service. It's no different than Samsung, Google, Amazon, etc. Why do you think there's anything unethical about this? It's most definitely not.

You could have upgraded to the next tier in iCloud Storage for $1 per month. That's a whopping $12 per year. Since you are likely going to lose your data, would that very small expense, which is about the cost of two premium drinks at Starbucks, really have been that difficult to afford?

You suggest you are responsible. That's great. You need to fully own being responsible and that means doing what you could have done to ensure you never lose your data.
