Extensions not turning on due to error in macOS Sequoia 15.7.2

I cannot turn my extensions on. When I click to turn or enable an extension, any extension I get the message "an app or service is interfering with clicking". I've tried uninstalling software and reinstalling. That doesn't work. Tried logging in in "safe mode" but then my extensions I am trying to turn on are not listed so can't turn them on in safe mode. This issue actually started in the Sonoma OS but continues when I upgraded to Sequoia 15.7.2

Let’s go step-by-step through the best known fixes:

🧹 1. Check for “click-blocking” apps

Make sure no tools like these are installed or running:

  • BetterTouchTool, Magnet, Rectangle, or Moom
  • Keyboard Maestro, Karabiner-Elements, Hammerspoon
  • Antivirus or security tools (Avast, McAfee, CleanMyMac, etc.)
  • Remote control / screen sharing utilities (TeamViewer, AnyDesk, LogMeIn)

Quit them completely (use ⌘ + Q) or temporarily uninstall, then retry enabling the extension.

⚙️ 2. Reset Accessibility permissions

These can get stuck and block clicks inside System Settings.

Open Terminal and run:

tccutil reset Accessibility
tccutil reset All

Then restart your Mac and try again.

(You’ll have to re-grant permissions to trusted apps later.)

🪟 3. Reset System Preferences cache

Sometimes the extensions panel itself is corrupted.

Run this in Terminal:

rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Then reboot.
