No Notification Sound for Messages While in Lock Screen

I am not getting a notification sound for messages or emails when my iPhone 17 Pro Max is in lock screen, but the notification sounds work perfectly when the screen is open. I’ve done everything from resetting the network settings, to hard rebooting the phone, and switching the allow notifications toggle off and on, but nothing fixes it. I also took the phone to the Apple Genius Bar twice. They looked at all the settings and confirmed that everything was properly enabled. I’m currently using IOS 26.1, but this problem started with the initial IOS 26 update. Is anyone else having this issue?

No, because things are working as they were designed to work. If your iPhone screen is open, you'll get notifications on your iPhone. If your iPhone screen is locked, the notifications will be delivered to your watch, NOT your iPhone. This is how Apple designed notifications to work since the dawn of Apple Watch.

Read this from Apple and notice the statement at the top about where notifications are received --> Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

It says clearly, the following:

Where notifications appear

Notifications appear on your Apple Watch or iPhone, but not both.

This was very helpful information and solved my issue. I turned off notifications on my Apple Watch and I am now getting a notification sound on lock screen. Thanks very much.
