How do I add a Bookmark Folder in Safari?

I have tried to follow the advice on this page:

Add a bookmarks folder in Safari on Mac - Apple Support (TJ)

But the three-dots menu button mentioned at Paragraph 3 is nowhere to be seen on my Mac, so I'm a bit stuck.

Any suggestions please?

ok. well I am on sequoia as well.

you can "control-click" or (right click) an empty spot on your safari sidebar. you will be presented with "new folder".

click on "new folder", and a new untitled folder shows up. you can then name it whatever you wish.

Try going to the Bookmarks menu and then click on Edit Bookmarks. (Might want to do this on an empty tab, as it will replace whatever you are in)

It should open a page with your bookmarks and a "New Folder" button at the top right.

To specify a folder to be added in, click the folder you want it in to select it first, and then click on "New Folder"

Thanks Jeffrey,

Doing that merely seems to open up the sidebar with my bookmark menu items in it. I can see no obvious way of adding a new folder, let alone specify in which main folder it appears as a sub-folder.

I am sure I used to be able to add folders, because I created all the folders in the sidebar, but my method now escapes me and I cannot work out how to do it now. Perhaps it's a Sequoia thing that I've not encountered before.
