You’re not alone, this “system has run out of application memory” issue popped up for a bunch of users after the Sequoia update.

It’s caused by a memory leak in background processes like WindowServer, corespotlightd, or certain Safari/WebKit tabs going rogue.

For now, check Activity Monitor > Memory and sort by usage, if you see one process eating gigs of RAM, force quit it. Restarting clears it temporarily, but until Apple patches it, try disabling login items and browser extensions to reduce background load. Also, keep around 10–15% of free SSD space, Sequoia relies on swap memory, and low disk space triggers this error faster.

No " System has run of applicatin memory " here

Running a M4 Desktop, M4 MBA and M2 Desktop, each machine with Tahoe 26.1

Use the Activity Monitor application and select View >> View All Processes. Identify the processes using the most CPU and memory.

Often, it’s a combination of processes.

When the computer uses a lot of CPU and Memory, it may indicate a lack of Free space on the drive.

In this case, the CPU and memory usage increase as the system searches for empty space to save changes.

Also, consider the number of Web Browser Tabs in use.

Each tab may consume significant CPU and memory resources.
