Apple Wallet Digital ID support for US Passport Card

Adding a US Passport Card to Apple Wallet

So I found the option to add my US Passport to Apple Wallet through the Digital ID option, however all of the prompts and instructions are only for a US Passport Book. I have a US Passport Card (another acceptable option for the US Passport for TSA) and while I was able to get the rear barcode to scan, it will in no way accept any sort of chip reading from the card. I was wondering if it was written anywhere in some documentation about the support for these cards.
