LogiTech MX Master 3 mouse speed issue with Apple News

I use a LogiTech MX Master 3 on my MacBook Pro. Whenever I open Apple News, the mouse movement gets accelerated to an almost unusable speed. When I close Apple News the mouse speed returns to normal. Is this a bug with Apple News? Is there a way to prevent that from happening?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.0

Thank you! Your list gave me an idea of what to check, and I found the culprit. I did assign app specific settings to Apple News so that I could use side back button to exit out of the news article back to the main feed. I checked the settings in Logi Options+, and noticed that the wheel button was set to "Change pointer speed". I went into Apple News and clicked the wheel button, and the mouse pointer changed back to the normal sane rate that I am used to. I guess that if you use app specific settings for toggles like changing the pointer speed, Logi Options+ remembers it when the app is running. Thanks for your suggestions because they gave me a path to find the solution. BTW, my mouse is connected to my MacBook via Bluetooth and only Bluetooth. I have no idea where the USB dongle is.

Are you connecting your Logitech mouse with Bluetooth or with either the Logitech Unifying or Logi Bolt receiver?

No doubt, this is a bit of a peculiar behavior ... but, anything is possible. As such, I would think any of the following could be a cause:

  • The MX Master 3 supports both Bluetooth and Logitech’s Unifying USB dongle. When one app is active (e.g., Apple News) maybe the mouse driver, OS, or Bluetooth subsystem switches modes, causing a different sensitivity or acceleration curve.
  • Some apps have custom scroll/drag behavior or respond differently to input devices (especially high-DPI mice). It may be that Apple News triggers some UI state that changes how the OS treats cursor movement.
  • macOS has built-in pointer acceleration and sometimes when switching contexts (full-screen, different display, overlay) it can feel like acceleration/speed changes.
  • If you’re using Logitech’s driver software on macOS, it might apply app–specific settings, or have a glitch when switching apps.
