Revert brightness/volume overlay display on Mac

My Mac recently updated to Tahoe 26.0 .

Previously the small overlay that is displayed when adjusting screen brightness or system volume was a medium-large-ish box displayed in the middle of the screen.

Now the overlay is smaller, and is displayed at the top-right of the screen near the clock.

I preferred the old style - is there any way to revert that change? Possibly a preference/setting, or maybe a file I could edit somewhere ?
