Unable to take screenshots after updating

The screenshot function on my mac is not working after updating to the newest version.

When I'm trying to take a screenshot this pops up instead (I had to use my phone)

"Your screenshot can't be saved. Unable to capture desktop image"

I found similar issues with people unable to screenshot after updating but the solution "unselecting show floating thumbnails" does not work for me.

Tried the default shortcut and the shift-command-5 with both getting the same result.

Also booted in safe mode and still got the same issue.

Capturing selected window, selected area and screen recording is also not working btw.

I don't think I have edited or downloaded anything weird after the update. Any ideas or any ways to find the bug?

If making changes to your options Shift Command 5

I can say third party sync software like: OneDrive, GoogleDrive, BackBlaze or DropBox

can cause issues or usurp screenshots. They have their own settings to change.

for macOS upgrade issue you can try reinstalling the macS on top of the existing macOS to sort issue"

Once I have my options set I always use the traditional screenshots —

Shift Command 3

Shift Command 4

***wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries— connect the charging cable, this will make the wired keyboard successful Safe Boot your Mac.

unplug all non-essential  peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Safe mode and using another user gets the same problem.

Also checked console and found this rather suspicious error after trying to take a screenshot

fault	19:12:54.488461+0800	runningboardd	Two equal instances have unequal identities. <anon<screencapture>(501) pid=1069 AUID=501> and <anon<screencapture>(501)(0) pid=1069>

It seems like some duplicated files or something? Searched online and didn't find any similar cases

try restore your keyboard shortcuts

>System Settings>Keyboard>Keyboard shortcuts

makes some changes, then come back to restore defaults, and compare your results
