Changing release date not possible

Why can't I change the release date of my songs that I purchased? This song was originally released in 1958, republished in 2002. If I cannot change the date all my (automatic) playlists will be complertely messed up.

Gulliver,

The "release date"is a special protected field that is only present for tracks purchased from the iTunes Store. It is not user-editable. As a result, it often contains useless or misleading information, such as the date a certain compilation was released instead. The best thing is to ignore it.

The user editable field is the Year ("Jahr" in your screenshot) which you can use as you wish.

This field „Jahr“ is exactly what I was trying to edit - and it won‘t let me. This is why I posted the question here.

OK, I thought you were talking about the "release date" field, which is different.

The Year/Jahr should be editable in the normal way on the Details screen as you pictured.

  • Make sure the file you are trying to edit is a local copy, not its cloud equivalent.
  • Then make sure you have Write permission to the file and its containing folders.

If not, none of the fields will be editable.

Does that help?
