iPhone apps not in Spotlight on new Mac, macOS 26.1

I purchased a new MacBook, and after connecting it to iCloud and activating iPhone Mirroring, none of my iPhone apps appear in Spotlight. Both devices are running OS version 26.1. Is this expected behaviour, or should I be taking additional steps?

I’ve checked the Spotlight filters, including the iPhone Apps and Apps toggles within the Results from System section of Spotlight settings. I toggled them on and off, restarted both the MacBook and the iPhone, and even performed a Transfer and Reset on the Mac before setting it up again. Unfortunately, the iPhone apps still do not appear.

It seems that this iteration of macOS Tahoe may have broken the feature that displays iPhone apps in Spotlight’s Applications window.

On my older MacBook, after upgrading from macOS 15 to macOS 26.0.0—and upgrading my iPhone from iOS 18 to 26.0.0—iPhone apps appeared in Spotlight automatically. Both devices were connected to the same iCloud account and had iPhone Mirroring enabled prior to the upgrade, so that behaviour seems correct.

I’m interested to hear what others are experiencing, especially if you began using iPhone Mirroring starting with macOS 26.0.0. At this point, it appears that either macOS 26.1 prevents iPhone apps from showing in Spotlight, or the behaviour only works when iPhone Mirroring was set up before upgrading to macOS 26.0.0.

Locate one specific iPhone app that you're sure is not appearing. Then manually launch that app from the Finder.

Then, quit the app. Go back to the Spotlight search tool and try again.

In the past, I've had problems after upgrades when Spotlight would ignore the existence of old apps. I had to manually launch them all to get them re-integrated into the operating system. Doesn't happen every time, but more than once.

On my computer, I have to click the "Applications" button in the Spotlight search, then scroll past the one line of (I guess) recent apps, then past "Other" and then I see "iPhone apps".

Yes and the shortcut to this is launching the Application Window. Also, yes I believe in macOS 26.1, there is a section added for. and titled "iPhone Apps".

After typing the name of the app, if you backspace, you'll get a standard "x" clear button in the search field. Go ahead and try clicking on it. Nothing happens.

Yes I can confirm this too.

But if you can see your iPhone apps, then all you have to do is double-click on the app.

That's the issue, i.e my original post. I suspect you have been macOS prior to v26, probably upgraded from macOS 15?

If you are referring to the Applications folder in Finder, iPhone apps do not appear here. I have however, tried similar methods e.g., launching some apps either on the iPhone itself as well as within the iPhone Mirroring.

My concern remains however, is macOS 26.1 breaking this expected behaviour. If it is, customers purchasing a MacBook will not see any of there iPhone apps when connecting to iCloud and activating iPhone Mirroring.

Sorry about that. I was thinking about iOS apps that you might have installed on a Mac.

I wasn't thinking about iPhone Mirroring. I've only tried iPhone Mirroring a couple of times and it's always been a complete failure. All that ever happens is that I'm told to get up off my lazy bum and get my phone. I mean - every time.

I am making an assumption here and that is iPhone Mirroring needs to be activated in order for your iPhone apps to be visible for Spotlight to find. This would make sense since when activating it, the part of the simple setup states this feature will be available. Apart from that, my main issue is that Spotlight is not finding iPhone apps, but is this the requirement to ensure both devices are connected to iCloud as well as activating iPhone Mirroring?

There is no documentation that I can find what needs to be in place (and perhaps also the order), so perhaps it was a feature rushed through without much flushing out of various scenarios that need to be considered. I am saying this also because I can see the grid view in the Application Window have some separation lines. The first one is for the first row and appear to be the most recent apps (not titled) that were opened, then an other section showing the bulk of the apps (not titled), then another section titled Utilities.

You have to scroll all the way down to see the iPhone apps. On my computer, I have to click the "Applications" button in the Spotlight search, then scroll past the one line of (I guess) recent apps, then past "Other" and then I see "iPhone apps".

You can also just type the name of the app.

But here's another funny bug. After typing the name of the app, if you backspace, you'll get a standard "x" clear button in the search field. Go ahead and try clicking on it. Nothing happens.

So I really don't see what you're missing here...

I supposed I could get and get my phone. Then set it next to my computer and keep looking at it so it's unlocked. And then I can use it from my Mac. Whoohoo.
