Is Quick Start transfer responsible for software bugs on a new iPhone?

I recently saw a video of a lady saying she went to the apple store to see why her brand new phone was being slow, had bad camera quality, etc. She proceeded to say an apple employee told her it was because she used quick start to transfer her phone rather then setting it up as a brand new phone. How accurate is this? She was told from an apple employee that Quick Start transfers over “previous software bugs” from the old device, and this just wasn’t making sense to me, and I wanted to see if that was actually the case.

What they said makes no sense. A backup does not include the iOS version, so it couldn't have transferred "software bugs". And the Genius wouldn't know if it did either. And QuickStart transfers the same as restoring from iCloud or connecting by cable, but in fact easier. The issues they described is likely to be related to something else.

It's nonsense.

If bugs were to be "transferred", they would occur with Quick Start, a backup of the iPhone on iCloud or a backup of the iPhone on a computer backup.

The only way to make sure that something is not transferred is to do no transfer or restore at all when you set up a new phone. In other words, you have to start all over and set up the phone from scratch.....not using Quick Start or a backup.

That makes complete sense, and it’s what I was thinking. Apparently the Genius told the lady that her camera issues were coming from her previous device, which is utter nonsense.

I believe the issue is people have expectations for their devices that go far beyond the truth.

Thanks for clarifying and replying, it’s very appreciated!

Your original post said nothing about a person in the Genius Bar, it just said an Apple employee. One of the people who answered your question made the assumption it was a Genius Bar tech.

I suspect it was a salesperson who told them and not a tech in the Genius Bar. Sales people are trained to know the features of the phone but know very little about the technical side. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a salesperson made the incorrect statement.
