The typing indicator shows when I'm not typing in a group chat on my iPhone

Why, when I'm texting in a group chat, does it say I'm typing on my screen when it didn't use to it even show when I'm not.

Unable to text in group chat I have a group chat with other iphone users that all of a sudden I cannot respond to. The text box to reply is missing. I cannot leave the conversation, or hide alerts, etc. All of those options are greyed out. I have already tried closing the messaging app, updating my iOS, myself starting a new thread with the same friends, or even had my friends start a new group and each time I am temporarily able to respond to the group chat, but eventually, I am unable to, and the textbox to reply disappears. I don’t have any issues with any other group chats, just this one in particular and I don’t know why.

iOS 26 group chat bug After iOS26 updates my existing group chat replies are sending as individual chats and don’t show in the group chat. Seems to be ok with all iPhone groups. But groups with non-iPhone users seem to be broken. When i post in the group chat it shows SMS and message is green, even though i have tried turning off RCS MMS and SMS in my message settings. Anyone else having this issue?

Cannot respond to group text I am part of a group text with my brother, sister and mom. I cannot respond to the group text, yet I can respond to ALL other group texts. In the one with my family, I do not get a text bar at the bottom of the message thread. This is the ONLY message this happens with. No matter how many times I turn off my phone and turn it on again, it still happens. I just end up creating a new group. I appreciate any insight. I have an iPhone 11. Thanks.

Possibly a bug, or because you have opened the text field and the keyboard is open and ready to type. The fact that you are typing should only be shown when you have started typing.

Try closing the app completely. Swipe up to the middle of the display to enter the App Switcher, and swipe notifications up and away.

See if this has fixed it.
