iMessage doesn't scroll up automatically when typing

Happens to me too. It stops scrolling after the eighth typed line.

My work around: Once your text has disappeared off the bottom of the screen, manually swipe the text up until you can see your last typed word. The cursor should be there and blinking (if not, tap at the end of the word). You can then continue to type from there and the screen will scroll as normal for as long as you need.

Obviously a bug that, hopefully, someone on this forum will see and address in a future update.

This was also driving me crazy because I’m quite wordy sometimes and I like to correct typos as I go. Was typing a rather long text message to a friend this morning when I hit the Return key. And suddenly the message started scrolling properly. Don’t know why. Don’t know if it will do it for anyone else, but I turned everything off, and when I turned everything back on and found the problem still there, it fixed itself again after I hit the return key. Hope this might help others.

I just tried to fix the problem by updating to 26.2.1, but the problem was not fixed. I have played with the size of the font I am using, and the text stops scrolling when the frame of the text bubble reaches the name of the person I am texting. Once I “thumb” the bubble up, it will scroll as usual. If this change was meant as a feature, I don’t understand the advantage.

Ever since the update to iOS26.1, I have lost automatic scrolling when typing an iMessage. I had hoped iOS 26.2 would have resolved this as it was noted as a known problem on a Google search.

However, iOS 26.2 has not resolved the issue.

Please advise when a correction can be expected as automatic scrolling worked flawlessly since the earliest days of iMessage.

This is an annoying glitch that is affecting me, as well! Hopefully this feedback will urge Apple to correct this obnoxious bug! I haven’t found a workaround, aside from manually scrolling down, but, even still, auto-scrolling as you type doesn’t happen, forcing you to continue to manually scroll down! Apple, please help!

And was this glitch resolved regarding the iMessage text not scrolling down while typing?

Here it is February 1, 2026, and apparently it hasn’t been solved. Your post was back in November 2025. I recently just updated to the new and ‘improved’ OS.

I would file a complaint with Apple, but in typing my text, I somehow lose the key points in the window. I can’t see cause I always save the punch line and directive until the last sentence e.g. FIX THIS DOG GONE PROBLEM!

So, is Apple listening or is this some sinister plan to make old iPhone users buy the latest and greatest?

First this was a problem when typing in notes. Now when typing texts. Seriously, don’t remember Apple having as many bugs as the IOS 26.

I am having the same problem and have Googled the issue. I really want this fixed because it is a pain in the butt! PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!

With New 17 scrolling on iMessage does not happen. I see many complaints about 26….all agree needs fixing.

It appears that iOS 26.3 has fixed this on my iPhone 16.

What’s troubling is that Apple never acknowledged the issue in the first place, nor took credit for the fix when they released iOS 26.3.
