Trouble pairing AirPods

My AirPods were recently acting up, so I went into my iPhone and hit forget device so that I could repair and hopefully fix that issue. But when I try to reconnect my AirPods, nothing shows up under the Bluetooth settings to try to connect to. I am taking the correct steps, the AirPods and case both have sufficient charge, yet it still does not show up. I’ve tried resetting the AirPods themselves but it still doesn’t help. I don’t know what to do
