Mail app: Can't re-enter Exchange password after update

Has anything changed from iOS 26.x with regard to the native email client's Exchange configuration update flow?

For example:

The Exchange profile is pushed to the device.
The Mail client prompts the user to enter the password for the Exchange account.
If the user cancels this prompt and doesn't enter a password, then later navigates to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > [Exchange account] > Account Settings > Advanced Settings, there should generally be an option to re-enter the password (before 26.x)

However, starting from iOS 26.x, we observe that the Email field is already populated with <domain>\userid (if a domain is used), as well as the description and no option to enter the password. Instead, there is only a "Next" button, which, when clicked, displays a message: "Invalid Email Address - Enter a valid address for this account."

If i click out of that box, then you get the option to enter the password option.

Sounds complex.

Normal way to update any email account password (other than iCloud) is, having changed the email password in a browser or another device, go to Settings, Apps, Mail, Mail accounts, then remove the account, then add it back using the new password.

Read the post again, I said change the email password in a browser, then Settings, Apps, Mail, Mail accounts, then remove the account, then add it back using the new password.

Thank you! However, my question is aimed at understanding why the flow has changed. I am specifically referring to the Exchange Profile installation, not the process of manually adding the email account.

Exchange is a Microsoft app. I don't think that you will get much help with Exchange on this Apple site, but you can wait to see if anyone who is familiar with Exchange will reply.

I suspect the OP is installing exchange as a member of a company IT department

Thank you for the response. But we are not able to find "Remove password / Password re-enter" option in the iOS settings app.

NOTE: This issue started after updating iOS 26.0
