I need a fix for “This Mac is attempting to reconnect to your source”

I’m trying to set up my 2020 MacBook Air again by restoring from a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive. I erased the device before sending it out for a battery repair, and now I want to set it up normally using the Time Machine backup. However, when I enter Recovery Mode, I get a message saying: “You must use Migration Assistant to transfer data from this backup.”

During my first attempt, I left the process running for several hours, and when I came back, I saw a pop-up that said: “This Mac is attempting to reconnect to your source.” I tried several times but nothing works i even tried to do commands using command line

please help

Thank you for the screenshot.

Troubleshooting 'This Mac is attempting to reconnect to your source':

Apparently, there is a conflict detected.

Screenshot:

So, a few things to try here:

A. Use Disk Utility:

While in Recovery Mode, go into Disk Utility, and elect First Aid for each and all drives and volume.

B. Select: less items to transfer.

C. Use Ethernet:

If no Ethernet port, then use an adapter: Belkin USB-C to 2.5Gb Ethernet Adapter - Apple

I need a fix for 'This Mac is attempting to reconnect to your source': It did transfer without stopping but Unfortunately I encountered a new issue after 12 hours after using migration assistance and it transferred my whole files (about 1m files) this messages appeared and i thought after the transfer process disappeared i would find everything back again in laptop like how it was

You are welcome.

Thank you for the followup reply.

Why these Messages and what to do:

A. Prerequisites for Updates:

By your first screenshot, you needed to install the correct macOS, and to do that you needed the correct version to upgrade. That would be required if specs were not installed that were required.

B. Corrupt Install:

By your second screenshot, the install was corrupted —and that can happen when a power issue occurs; system files have gone missing; a power glitch priced; and/or loss of Internet connection. And that is what a reinstall is about.

C. Use Time Machine Backup:

So, perform the reinstall(assuming it wasn’t done yet). In doing so, corrupt system files and missing system files will be reinstalled and placed back to where they should be, respectively.

IMPORTANT: Create a Time Machine Backup of your MacOS prior to and after the reinstall. That way, you can have something to restore your MacOS from, should anything go wrong afterwards.

I will try thank you , i also think that the cable itself may have some issues so that’s why it’s reconnecting over an over: and last thought of this whole problem is also the backup i did it may have conflicted with old things on my mac after I reinstalled the macos after formatting it

———-

Conflicting Network Connections:

So, if this comes down to using a network cable, then the connection out to do —unless you care using a static(rather than a dynamic) IP address, and you are assigned one that is already in use, expect overlapping (conflicting) with that device. So, if not your network the ask the Network Administrator for an assistance.

Use “Forget this Network”:

While in Recovery Mode, the remove WiFi network from your list, and then add it back.

Post-Time Machine Backup:

Installation issues of a TMB would not conflict, until after the restore complete. So, if transferring, then, try a new format (APFS). If installing would conflict, then that would mean that incompatibility is likely the issue —and to fix that, contact the Developer directly, requesting assistance with getting a new license key, or how to get an upgraded version.
