Why is Maps on macOS so slow?

Why is Maps on MacOS so slow? If I put in a destination it takes so long that I usually give up and just go to Google Maps instead. Maps has been this way for as long as I can remember, but yet on the iPhone it's lighting fast. I am on a Mac Mini M4 with current OS so that shouldn't be a limitation.

Loss of Performance / Low FPS in Google Maps Using CarPlay I'm experiencing a rather sudden loss of performance while using Google Maps via CarPlay in my vehicle. Previous to iOS 18.5 I enjoyed a perfectly acceptable framerate in my head unit whilst using G Maps, even in fullscreen, which hovered around 30 fps by my reckoning. Since 18.5, performance is approximately halved and is so jarring I find it unusable, even when run using half the screen. I am not alone; there is a Reddit thread here that accurately depicts what I am experiencing. I've tried the most common answer (delete local app data on the app in-phone) with no change. I'd love to get this surfaced to Apple in hope the issue can be addressed. Specs: iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18.5 Google Maps 25.25.3.772132**** Wireless Carplay on a 2024 Porsche using PCM 6.0 [Edited by Moderator]

Fixing the cache, DNS, and iCloud sync dramatically improves speed for most users.
