Getting iPhone Mirroring to work consistently

I can't use iPhone Mirroring. I have used it sometimes but I can't tell how or why when on other occasions I am stuck in the loop of lock-unlock. I wasted an hour on ChatGPT Atlas this evening being guided through very advanced layers of tech support and it all came to nothing. Has anyone else this problem. ChatGPT checked all the settings were correct and I can't weary you with it all but it is terrible. I like Mirroring when it is working but don't know why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

Do you have a VPN installed? Network connections are very unstable when using a VPN and that also includes the connection to the iPhone when using Mirroring. Turning off would not resolve the problem in that case, it would have to be uninstalled.

I assume you are using iOS 26.1 on your phone and your Mac is also fully updated.

Start with the iPhone locked, then open the iPhone Mirroring app on the Mac. At that time you may be asked to unlock your phone. Are you getting any other messages such as iPhone in Use?

Does rebooting the Mac and iPhone resolve the problem?
