update to macOS 26.1

My MacBook Pro 2024 has been checked for updates in the settings, but I have been unable to locate any new updates. Currently, it is still running version 15.6. How can I upgrade it without risking the loss of my data?

The ONLY way to upgrade without risk of data loss is to Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support or another backup utility like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!.

Anything less than a full backup or clone to an external drive or two is less.

When that is done, then this to upgrade: How to upgrade to macOS Tahoe - Apple Support
