iPhone 17pro won't turn on

My iPhone 17pro won't turn on, or charge after battery draining completely. No battery low sign, no apple logo, just a plain black screen. I tried both, charging with the cable, as well as wireless charging. Has anyone else experienced this? What could be the issue?

A black screen after the battery drains completely is a common but stressful issue. Here is an Apple support's tip you can try: If your iPhone won't turn on or the screen is black - Apple Support. Besides, these steps may help you:

1. Force Restart: This is the most effective first step and won't affect your data. First, you should press and quickly release the Volume Up and Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button. Don't let go until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

2. Thorough Charging: You mentioned trying this, but the method is key. Please use an official Apple-certified wall adapter and cable, and leave the iPhone charging for at least one full hour. A deeply depleted battery can take a long time to show signs of life. Trying a different cable/adapter is also a good idea to rule out faulty accessories.

3. Connect to a Computer (Recovery Mode): If it's still a black screen, connect it to your Mac (using Finder) or PC (using iTunes). While connected, perform another force restart as described in step 1, but do not release the side button when the Apple logo appears. Keep holding it until you see the recovery mode screen (an image of a computer and a cable). Your computer should then offer two options: "Update" or "Restore". You should choose "Update" first, as it attempts to reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

If none of these steps work, it may be a more persistent software issue or a hardware problem that requires professional service. You can ask apple aupport for help.

If the "Update" fails and you're considering "Restore" (which erases all data), you might first try a system repair tool to fix iPhone issues.
If none of these steps work, it may be a more persistent software issue or a hardware problem that requires professional service. You can contact Apple support.

Appears that doing all these on a knock-off charging cable won't do anything!

I tried these and none worked, then did the Vol+/Vol-/PWR combination on a genuine Apple cable and charger, worked on the first try! This is what I used:

Vol+ and Vol- and PWR bottom 10 sec

The release Vol+ and keep Vol- and PWR bottom for another 10 sec (apple logo showed up in less than 5 sec)

  1. Follow the Apple article to resolve the issue --> If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen ...
  2. If not resolved; please follow the steps in the following link for support with this issue: If your iOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly
  3. You still see a black screen after charging, force restarting, following the steps in this article.
    1. You see a black screen, but you can hear alerts, sounds, and vibrations.
    2. The screen remains black, but the device chirps when you unmute it and connect it to power.
    3. Your screen is on, but it doesn't respond when you tap, slide, or try other gestures.
    4. You can't force your device to restart because a button is broken or stuck.
    5. Your device is stuck on the Apple logo, displays a solid color, or isn't recognized in iTunes.
    6. Contact Apple Support to set up service if you have any of the above issues:
  4. Please follow the steps in the following Apple Video for support with this issue:

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

"Please use an official Apple-certified wall adapter and cable" Oh my God. Stop Gaslighting people. This is a known common occurrence with the iPhone 17. I have one. Note: If someones phone has been charging with the current cable they are using and it all of a sudden doesn't charge (providing the cable hasn't become suddenly damaged) it has nothing to do with 'what' cable is being used.

This issue is a common fault that occurs and is well documented on Reddit.

The issue - It's a firmware problem. Apple may tell you otherwise. Once the phone goes completely dead, the registry software is not 'registry'ing'. It becomes stuck in a non-connective loop.

The fix - Charge the phone by the using wireless charging. At first it will not give you signal that its charging so just leave it - 5 to 10 minutes - Once it turns on, remove it from the wireless charger and plug it in, if all goes well, it should start charging from the cable.

This is a fault with the phone that reportedly happens from time to time. Sick and tired of being Gaslighted i.e 'make sure you are using the correct cable, the problem is you, not the phone'.

Mine as well, had the brand new phone for less than a month. Died for the first time today & Im on hour 3 of no luck. I’ve tried all methods of force restart & using other cords, as a small business owner with only one device to communicate, please let me know if there’s another method to fix this. I’m freaking out.

As a business owner you should have retained a spare device. Or AppleCare+ would have provided rapid replacement

I hate my new phone. I am travelling and trying to take a simple photo, and the phone makes a different decision of what I want and I miss the shot. Also, I actually dislike where the photo button it is. I hit it by mistake all the time. Now the phone is drained completely, and neither cable or wireless charging is working. Helppppppppp!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. This is a great place to ask questions and learn about your Apple devices and services. It’s also important to know that everyone commenting and posting are just fellow Apple users. Apple and Apple Support do not participate here.

You’ll find that the members come from all corners of the globe and their experiences may differ from yours. Just rookie mistakes, not a big issue, but thought I should jump in offer a few tips to help you adjust to the community. I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
