Why does my iPhone 17 Pro not control nearby devices unless I’m 2 feet away….. seems to take the convenience out of the equation

Can you share a bit more detail on the devices which exhibit this “lack of controllability”
The point is my 13 pro did it effortlessly the 17 pro wants to be less than 3 ft away to an iPad Pro 10.5 inch
I’m still at a bit of a loss …
