in using Shapes in Preview, sometimes the generated shape outline is solid and sometimes it's "invisible". I cannot figure out how to make it solid every time. It just seems to randomly do the invisible outline every so often. Any ideas on how to make it do a solid outline every time?

It seems to me your "invisible" outline must be the result of having the color set to the same color as the background ... making the outline seem invisible. Changing the color should correct the invisibility.
Either that, or accidentally using the rectangular selection tool to "select" a rectangle has occurred.
(I could easily be wrong, as I'm no expert in this area.)

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, it didn't solve my issue. The invisible outline occurs randomly - I don't change anything; I do the exact same thing (that is, click on the shape icon>square shape). So it can't be that I have the color set to the same color as the background, because it would be "invisible" every time. I also reviewed the articles you linked and they give lots of good information, but none address this random switch from a solid line to an invisible outline. Thanks again for responding.
