I am a new GoPro Hero13 Black owner and looking for editing software (for a beginner) that is compatible with the videos created by this device and will work on a Mac running Big Sur; iOS 11.7.10. Will Final Cut Pro work?

Unless you already own Final Cut Pro, you won't be able to get it into a Mac running Big Sur.
The current version requires Sequoia 15.6 or later, and Apple ceased to provide older versions to those who have purchased the application.
So I am afraid the question about using FCP with your media is moot (though, for the record, it would work).
Since you are a beginner, odds are that the free iMovie is a good place to start. Do you have it on your mac? If not, I am not sure if the same problem occurs with iMovie.
Other options include the free version of DaVinci Resolve - very powerful, but somewhat more complex user interface. I'd start with iMovie, if possible.
Hi, thanks for the response. I guess I will try to learn iMovie. I did try to view a video created on the GoPro in iMovie and it was choppy on the Mac but ran fine on my iPhone.
