Help, iPad's "other" space taking so much space!!!!!

I think the idea that it is hidden caches is correct. I couldn't think of anything that would produce huge caches that might account for it other than VLC Streamer. I deleted that app, rebooted, and the yellow bar was back to normal. I don't know if it was deleting the app or merely the reboot, but this worked for me.

The problem with this is that it can happen because of a lot of factors. The only thing I would ask of Apple, if they can't find any specific cause, is to report better that "Other" space. This would allow people to single out an app or blame the operating system.

I had this problem with an iPad 3rd Gen, contacted Apple for support and actually got my iPad replaced. Since then I didn't have the same problem but I've added a second iOS device to the same iCloud account.

I'm just saying that I cannot say for 100% certainty that the iPad was faulty. I believe my problem had something to do with iCloud caching and having two devices can help invalidate each other's cache thus not allowing them to accumulate big amounts of cache.

I'd suggest people to contact Apple support if they can so they can get help. They were very helpful with me through all the process.

Sometimes just a reboot worked for me so I'd say it's not possible to blame one or the other.

I'd suggest anyone with patience to download iExplorer and check the space taken by any app they suspect is causing this.

banaslee: You might be on to something. I don't recollect this issue (or at least it wasn't causing any hindrance) with my iPad 2, iPhone 4. Now that you mention, I guess it all started with the advent of iCloud (iOS 5???). Let me try some things on all my Apple products and post back my observations.

Great, I tried holding the power and home key, now I am frozen with the Apple logo!! 😠 Now I'm worse than ever. Any thoughts and suggestions? I'm at work and can't even connect to my itunes till I get home.

After an hour it finally re-set. No idea how or why. Seems like my Wall St Journal App was taking up my Other Space. Deleted the app, reinstalled it and freed 3G!. Anyone else have issues with the WSJ? Any idea how to fix going forward?

going to media/itunes control/music and deleting all the files actually works i gained 8gb more 😁

I don't think deleting YouTube history is the answer to the problem (the only certain answer is to restore the device as new). However, there is still a YouTube app you can download.

I mean the new YouTube app of course. It works for me, The caches and history in the YouTube app waste a lot of space.
