Help, iPad's "other" space taking so much space!!!!!

I did something quite simple that seems to have solved part of my problme. I connected my ipad to computer, and deleted all my photos and music by deselecting the 'Sync selected music/photos' buttons in iTunes. Then I reinstalled them by doing the selecting On as above. The amount of space taken up by 'Other' reduced quite a lot. Presumably this process deleted junk copies of photos in Other.

I know how to reset and erase everything in order to reclaim this space. What I'd like to know is how to prevent "other" from taking that space again. What triggers it? What steps can I follow to keep the dastardly other at bay?

Excessive "Other" is usually some sort of corrupted data. It can be caused by an interrupted sync, gremlins, cosmic rays. I don't know of any way to really prevent it. It's only happened to me once or twice in all my years of iPod Touches, iPads and iPhones.

Mostly happens when synching through Wi-Fi as it is longer. I solved the issue by launching Cafeine (https://itunes.apple.com/fr/app/caffeine/id411246225?mt=12) or the cafeinate command (http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/03/disable-sleep-mac-caffeinate-command/) when syncing my device (if transferring a lot of data)

It solved my issue on my iPhone and iPad

I deleted all my photos but they would not be deleted after sync. Still showed up in itunes and on ipad. I kept unchecking the sync box. I kept re-syncing using itunes and after 8 or 9 times the sync finally deleted them. and then a few more sync's the "other" finally went down from 12.7 GB to 10.5., bun subsequent syncs failed to reduce any further

Longtime iPad user but I've never had this problem until this morning. I have alot of photos, not so many apps, hardly any movies and always about 1/2 of my iPad total space available.

went to sync apps this morning and the info bar at the bottom of iTunes reported I was "6gb over" and all yellow other. one of the first solutions in this topic suggested resetting network settings on the iPad thru the settings app. that took about 30 seconds and worked like a charm.

i was so sidetracked by the new mavericks update, i don't know when this might have occured but glad it seems an easy fix. hopefully it was just a fluke.

This does not work.. I have tried also to perform a complete Reset (eliminating all info) and restoring the backup. Since this was not working; I have resetted completely and added a brand new profile in iTunes.

The "Other " bucket started with 1.3GB. Then I have only added Music & Photos (not a single App). Now my "Other" is 2.75GB.... Does anyone has any clue?

If you can't find out the problem it could be worth booking an appointment in the Genius Bar at your local Apple store.

I found the problem for me. Under Settings - General - Usage I deleted videos and music and almost 20gb was instantly free again. I wonder if the new Radio has anything to do with it. Also I know my daughter was watching movies that were not synced to my iPad which I think she was watching from iCloud so they were not showing up as synced videos but were still taking up space. No need to restore or anything.

This happened to me when I backed up then restored my iPad using WiFi connection.

After reading your post, I did another backup and restore, but with a wired connection, and the "Other" returned to its previous 673 MB from close to 37 GB.

I can only assume that the first Restore iPad failed because in the second (wired) instance, I was presented with options to restore from one of the three devices I sync to iTunes. In the first instance, this option did not display.

I had the same problem and what i did is i restored the entire ipad and deleted all the data. It fixed it but everyything is gone.

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!! That's a good one :-).

If you like that one, here's another: I bought a new 128GB iPad to replace my 16GB model that had no space left thanks to "other", and now I have 114GB free space! But I admit, your solution is a lot less expensive.
