Apps freezing on iPhone 17 Pro

On my brand new iPhone 17 Pro, apps are freezing. Have tried turning off/on; uninstalling and reinstalling apps and a have done a total reset. The issue persists. A software update for iOS was done yesterday. Any other solutions? Thanks

Thanks for the ideas. I had loads of space as it was a brand new phone with minimal data—I had 150GB free. I tried restarting, erasing/wiping/resetting the phone and nothing worked. I tried other fixes offered here and on other platforms.

I ultimately ended up at an Apple Store where a clever young staff member sorted the issue by removing the VPN! She said it was a common problem/known issue and to reinstall VPN once apps are up and running. Once I restarted the phone without VPN, I got all my banking apps working again.

Hope this may help others.

Well... it is good to remove VPN, but crazy to reinstall when everything is running well. Unless you need to watch restricted material, you really don't need it. It hides your location but does all sorts of damage to data traffic inside and outside the phone. of you must have it choose a renowned paid-for VPN, and expect to pay maybe $15 a month for it.

Whenever we suggest removing VPN we get ridiculed, so glad it fixed it for you.

These responses are always so frustrating because there’s clearly a bug on Apple’s side. But the “help” always makes it seem like it’s the user who is at fault.

Maybe when you have been around as long as sberman you would know what the correct answer is.

If people save thousands of social posts, fail to clean up, install unnecessary security apps, then unfortunately it is not Apple's fault when the phones get crammed. How fast could you run after stuffing yourself completely full with holiday season food?

I’ve had an iPhone since 2010. I’ve never had the phone freeze like this, across multiple apps. I don’t save thousands of social posts. I don’t have unnecessary security apps. I have hundreds of GBs of free space.

And clearly the solution for OP in this situation had nothing to do with GB and restarting.

With that said, I did not mean to single out sberman for trying to help. I know y’all are doing your best to be there for people. I just think it’s annoying that major companies like Apple put the onus of support on unofficial voices.

I was just dealing with this with Plex, too.

This wasn’t the appropriate place to vent that frustration. Y’all don’t deserve that.

Thanks for that guidance as wasn’t aware VPN was not really needed. I had Mcafee paid sub and it always caused lots of problems. I thought it enable safe browsing but easy to not reinstall 👍

If you are in Russia, you could access the West's Internet with VPN.

In the UK you can access adult sites with VPN (1000% increase in sales of free VPN in the months following new pron laws)

Outside of UK you can watch BBC for free.

That is it. Everything else is snake oil promises.
