I have an iMac with OS Tahoe 26.1. How do I prevent open windows from expanding to full screen? I want them to stay the size I make them.

Go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock and turn off "Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen".
Go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock and turn off "Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen".
They won’t automatically, without some action from you. The green button at top left expands them. There are also multiple tiling options on System Settings > Desktop & Dock, turn those off...in particular, the middle one:
If this works, I thank you profoundly!
Thanks! I didn't know the green button had so many options!
MacOS 26.2
Since a few days (since 26.2?), opening browser DuckDuckGo and Photos jump to full screen, although they were not full screen on Quit. Other application do not have this atm.
It is very annoying!!!
The solutions above did not do the trick.

With both " DuckDuckGo and Photos " totally closed using ➡️ ⌘ + Q ⬅️
Hold the Shift key >> then attempt to launch " DuckDuckGo and Photos "
This should Safe Launch each application in the last stable condition
Prevent the app from restoring a bad session
Many apps crash because they try to reopen a corrupted window/session.
Hold Shift while launching
Quit the app completely
Hold Shift
Launch the app
Keep holding Shift until it finishes opening
This tells macOS apps not to restore previous windows/state
While you are at this
Unless you specifically Un - Check
" Reopen windows when logging in "
Any and all Applications what were open and or Active when you Shutdown the Computer
All the Open and Running Applications will auto Launch the next time your Startup the computer
This in and of itself could the Source of the DuckDuckGo and Photos issue the computer is experiencing now
I tried the Shift trick several times but to no avail.
(Quitting with Shift I did not try, since that will close ALL open applications an will log me out.).)
Closing a Singular as in 1 Application
With the DuckDuckGo Open / Active
