Is a screen protector safe for a MacBook Air

Do not use a screen protector or a keyboard cover.

Screen Protector:

The display has an anti-glare/protective coating. A screen protector may damage that coating.

Display damage:

The thin gap between the screen and keyboard is not large enough to

accommodate a cover. When the MacBook is closed, the cover can press

against the screen, causing scratches, pressure marks, or even breakage.

Heat dissipation:

The keyboard area is part of the laptop's cooling system. A cover can

block airflow, trapping heat inside and potentially degrading components

over time.

Foreign particles: Covers can trap dust and grime underneath them, which can then be pressed into the screen when the lid is closed.

• Learn how to clean your Apple products.
• Use an Apple Polishing Cloth to wipe the display.
• Don’t use abrasive liquid.
• Don’t spray anything directly onto the screen.
• Don’t use a screen protector.

If a "protector" damages the coating, which is highly likely, you have three options:

— have the display assembly replaced at a cost, based on reports here, starting around US$500†.

— buy a new Mac.

—live with the ugly spotting and discoloration that too many screen "protectors" inflict.

† — the entire upper unit is one sealed assembly. If one part of the display is damaged, it can only be fixed with a new assembly. Display assemply components cannot be separately replaced.

I concur with BobTheFisherman and Allan Jones on this. Don't use one.

I have the same problem, a very dusty room. I keep a soft brush designed for computers and screens on my desk and brush both off regularly.

Thats entirely up to you! What about your keyboard, that too will get dusty? Do you have something for that.

always use a good branded screen protector if you use one.
