After updating to 26.1, I'm unhappy with the layout in Mail. Is there a way to move the line up of font-style-size-etc. that now appears at the top of the new mail composition panel? It doesn't belong there! It belongs up top in the tool bar. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, no — macOS 26 / 26.1 does not allow you to move the formatting bar (“font-style-size-bold-etc.”) back to the toolbar in Mail.
Apple redesigned the Mail compose window in macOS Tahoe (26), and the formatting controls are now locked to the top of the message body, similar to iPadOS Mail.
Not the answer I was hoping for, but thank you. Have they never heard the expression "If it ain't broke"? I'm so sick of these cosmetic changes that are actually counter-productive. I wonder if gmail does the same thing. Guess it's time to find out.
