iPad sound stuck in headphone mode after update

After the update to iPadOS 26.1 (23B85). I had sound issues. iPad is stuck in headphone modus, cleaned the input, put in a jack a few times. Sound is Working on Bluetooth. Nothing wrong with microphone. Did a reset. Nothing is working.

Force the audio chip to reinitialize

On iPadOS 26.1, the headphone-detection circuit sometimes locks in the “headphones inserted” state until the audio daemon is reset.

Do this:

  1. Open Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch
  2. Turn AssistiveTouch ON
  3. Plug in any 3.5mm headphone plug
  4. Wait 5 seconds
  5. Unplug it
  6. Turn AssistiveTouch OFF

For many users, this immediately switches audio back to speakers.

This works because enabling AssistiveTouch forces a full reload of audio routing tables.
