Apple has different plans. Start here --> Add AppleCare coverage to your Apple device - Apple Support
Each device will have its own AppleCare plan. Should you elect to add this additional coverage to your new iPad, within 60-days of purchasing the iPad, you can do so directly from iPad settings.
If eligible, the option will be available directly below your name within the Settings App.
Another post says, "Each device will have its own AppleCare plan," which may be a bit confusing if you are considering AppleCare One:
"To protect multiple devices in one convenient plan with all the benefits of AppleCare+, you can start an AppleCare One plan. You'll start with coverage for up to three devices, and you can add more devices to your AppleCare One plan anytime."
More eligibility information in:
Add or remove a device from your AppleCare One plan - Apple Support
If you are not considering AppleCare One then the link I provided in my previous post is the most direct one to your other AppleCare product options.
