Um, sure.
But that is an open-ended question.
How well that will work depends on:
- what is wrong with the Mac. More wrong than just battery and HDD means more money sunk into an old Mac. There are repairs that are just uneconomical; more costly than some equivalent (working) Mac is worth
- what you want to do with the repaired Mac. Linux will probably work, current Windows 11 won’t work (absent shenanigans), and newer macOS isn’t supported with any HDD-era Intel-based MacBook and MacBook Pro models.
- Do you a sentimental attachment to this particular MacBook or MacBook Pro?
Can you get it to work and run old macOS and older apps? Sure. There will be issues with accessing some websites and particularly those requiring security, and even getting apps can be a problem depending in how far back this Mac is.
But it’ll — proper repairs assumed — work.
