I want to use IOS without AI on both my iPhone SE 2nd gen and iPad. I have iOS 18 .something and don’t want to upgrade to iOS 26 because of all the AI features. What is the most basic safe iOS I can use?? How? Thanks!

The iPhone SE and older iPad models aren't capable of the AI features; if your iPad isn't one of those, you'll need to leave it on 18 to avoid them.
The only options you have for updating will be listed in the Software Update function of Settings.

With Automatic Updates turned off, you will still have the option to update to iPad OS 18.7.2, which is the latest release that included security enhancements. It was available on November 5, 2025. The same is true for your iPhone.
If you do not see iPadOS 26 as an option on your iPad, then you would not be able to get it anyway, so it makes no difference if you have Automatic Updates on or off.
