iPhone 17 Pro Max assistive technology voice control issue with number overlay in Spelling Bee

I have a new iPhone 17 Pro Max. Since the iOS 26.1 download, I have been having trouble with assistive technology voice control using the number overlay in random ways. When I play the nyt games, it works perfectly in Wordle and Strands, but it is a disaster in Spelling Bee. It works only for every other command. In the intervening commands, it typically hits the wrong key forcing me to switch to the grid overlay, making numerous corrections along the way. It can take me 30 commands to input a five letter word.
